The prostrate trees in the Specimen Creek fossil forests show similar orientation. This is consistent with the trees having been transported (as by a flood), not with the trees having grown in place over many years.

  1. Some trees in the Specimen Creek fossil forests have been transported, but others clearly grew in place, including those on Specimen Ridge (Fritz 1980; Yuretich 1984a; 1984b).
